Viva...oooh, something SHINY!

"Then they all come out here, it's like someone lifted America by the east coast and shook it and the normal chicks managed to hang on."
--Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Ok you can replace the word "chicks" with PEOPLE...lol...this one is not gender specific!

I'm not sure what it is...perhaps it's like something out of Stephen King's The Langoliers where people slip through some weird wormhole or rift in the time space continuum...but I don't know what happens to seemingly normal people when they tell me they're visiting.

For some odd reason, people tell me that they're coming in advance but never follow up with me until after they arrive. In certain cases (like right now), they fail to even tell me if they're in town at all).

At first, they're SO excited that I live here and that I'll be here when they visit. Then they spring last minute calls or plans on me expecting me to drop what I'm doing and run to them at a moment's notice. And they're baffled when I can't do anything because of prior commitments.

Just because I reside in Vegas doesn't mean that I'm out here living it up without a care in the world and sitting at the pool everyday...that was last year...lol.

Perhaps people have such a warped view of the city that they feel everyone out here is wealthy beyond belief and just awaiting their arrival. Or, maybe they just get off the plane and are so enamored of the nightlife and the hopes of hitting it big at the casinos, that they just lose whatever common sense they have. (Now THAT I've seen!)

I'm opting for the latter because some of the company I keep aren't complete morons. And it isn't just one or two people...it seems to be almost everyone (with a few exceptions, of course)!

Now, I don't care if people enjoy themselves when they're here. They should. It's their vacation or whatever. I don't even care if they want to do anything with me. Enjoy life!

Just don't make it a point to tell me WAY in advance that you're coming out and definitely want to do something and when I don't hear from you for the longest time, expect me to come a runnin' when you decide to ring me at the last minute.

It doesn't work that way...

And then people wonder why I trim my list of friends and acquaintances on a regular basis...
