Late Night Gems

Well, I'm at a bit of a loss as the first gem I came across on HBO stand up--an old half hour of great comedy by forgotten comedian Ritch Shydner from 1992--isn't available for you to see. However, thanks to his website, you can listen...

Ritch Shydner

Click on the one entitled "HBO One Night Stand"...if you discover it elsewhere on video, please let me know as even Comedy Central (which once aired nothing but stand up and MST3K) doesn't even have it!

I recall watching this particular performance over and over and still to this day, can't understand why he didn't make it big when lesser talents abound. I laughed quite a bit tonight at his take on relationships...and maybe...just maybe...hope that someday I have one like that where we can laugh together.

And now for something completely different...

Encore (another pay cable channel) was running this B-movie gem from 1988...

GOD how I miss 80s movies...you could do whatever you wanted!

And when Joe Piscopo is awarded the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, I hope he fondly recalls his pairing with Treat Williams (aka "Roger Mortis"...lol...he deserved a better career--Williams, not Mortis) and the legendary Vincent Price!

That's my blast from the past for tonight...

And I didn't even mention the 70s piece of kitsch I saw earlier today, Devil Times Five ...

Great premise...embarrassing execution (no pun intended)...and when you watch it, tell me that Leif Garrett's real mom (who plays Lovely) wasn't smoking hot (kudos to you, Mr. Garrett...and Mrs. Calabash...wherever you are!)!

And THAT'S one to grow on!

:)
