Reflections

"Mirror in the bathroom
Please talk free

The door is locked

Just you and me"

Mirror: "Oh...it's you...what the hell do you want?"

Me: "Answers."

Mirror: "Want to hear a joke?"

Me: "Sure."

Mirror: "Buddhist walks up to a hot dog vendor and says 'Make me one with everything!' Vendor pockets the money and hands the Buddhist his hot dog. Buddhist waits a moment and asks for his change. Vendor replies 'Change comes from within'."

Me: "People hate change anyway."

Mirror: "Why do you say that?"

Me: "Gets in the way."

Mirror: "How so?"

Me: "Literally, it just sits there and jingles in your pocket. It's a reminder of what you don't want to carry around. That segues into a figurative interpretation of something you can't handle and want to get rid of."

Mirror: "So what does that tell you?"

Me: "Didn't I come to you for answers?"

Mirror: "You did, but I'm not your goddamned fairy godmother. You're the one asking your reflection what's what. You think I can wave a magic wand and make it all better?"

Me: "One would hope."

Mirror: "Well...bottom line is that you want the truth or else you'd just make up stuff in your head and not bother with me."

Me: "True."

Mirror: "So what you really want is to look yourself in the face and at least have someone listen to you...someone with common sense."

Me: "That would be refreshing."

Mirror: "I'd say you're wasting time with idle chit chat but since I'm not a shrink, at least you're saving money. Get to the point because I'm getting tired."

Me: "You do look a little world weary. Anyway...you saw me in Vegas. I was unhappy and angry. Now I'm back here and, thanks to many of the nice people I've come back into contact with as well as some decisions about life in general, I do feel happier."

Mirror: "So what's your point?"

Me: "Point is that there are still some that, no matter what you do, it's just never good enough. They don't like you this way...they don't like you that way...nothing appeases them."

Mirror: "Why not just avoid them?"

Me: "There are some that are impossible to avoid."

Mirror: "Family."

Me: "And some friends. Aren't people supposed to accept you for who you are?"

Mirror: "Ideally."

Me: "Then why do others try to mold me into what they want?"

Mirror: "Perhaps they're not satisfied with themselves and want to project that on you. Can't say you're not guilty of that either in the past."

Me: "That's true. But if I can change, why can't others?"

Mirror: "I refer you to my joke."

Me: "So you really can't be of any help at all?"

Mirror: "Again, not a fairy godmother."

Me: "You know I can crack you into a million little pieces."

Mirror: "Then you'd have seven years of bad luck."

Me: "And how would I be able to tell the difference even if I didn't smash you?"

Mirror: "Hmmmm..."

"Mirror in the bathroom
Recompense

For all my crimes

Of self defense

Cures you whisper

Make no sense

Drift gently into

Mental illness"

You DO know that talking to a mirror is the same as talking to yourself don't you Sean?

Change comes from within? That's too much work I'm lazy.

Man ... I've always had those lyrics wrong.

I find a lot of people change only for the sake of change, not for any decent reason (such as improvement).

*sigh* *wanders off singing to herself*

talking to the mirror has never helped me much either, i always end up mad at it for not just saying something nice. because when your happy and in a good mood, you have no need to talk to your mirror, right?

as long as you don't go handing out poisoned apples i think you'll soon see that anyone who wants you to change really only needs to change themselves. (i wasn't trying to be all deep and philosophical, it just came out that way :))

Karen,

Not it's not! I see his lips move and everything!

K,

Yeah...some people are trendy like that. Sometimes it's just in how you feel! :)

Lol...had that tune stuck in your head all day, huh? ;)

Lana,

Too late...I already sent the apples out.

And yes, I didn't have to talk to the mirror 30 minutes before that...then that moment of happiness was over and I did.

Oh Sean, Sean, Sean:

Just as you see your reflection in the mirror, so do others see their reflection in you.

They don't want you to change, they're talking about yourself and you are falling into the abysmal trap of thinking they are talking about you.

Little Beauty, Psych 101 needs to be reviewed.

You're wonderful, you're a great writer. Yes, yes, yes, am talking about you.

Now, tell me how you are...really are....

Lady A,

So good to see you here! It's been a long time (about a year I would say). Hope all is well with you!

Lol...well, my subtle attempts at weaving subtext in the form of dialogue seem to have eluded everyone. I know exactly what I was talking about.

Then again, may not have communicated it very well, either. ;)

I'm good. Better than I was in Vegas, that's for sure.

And yourself?

Karen,

When I was younger...so much younger than today...I never needed anybody's help in any way...

Maybe now, it's of the professional nature. ;)

Little Beauty:

Nothing wrong with getting professional help. I get it and you know how old I am...aghhhh, this birthday will be, will be....

Have problems saying numbers in the high stratosphere....

Where are you and what are you doing? Tell all...yes, all.

Me, little one, am just putting one foot in front of the other and checking my balance as I lift that shriveling foot.

No, you know what, but he's still around, calling and then having more excuses not to meet....

It's Sunday...do something wonderful for yourself.

What am I doing...lol...vacumning the house. I thing I have issues with defining what is wonderful for myself....

Hugs and magic fairy dust sprinkled on you.

Lady A,

There's really nothing to tell...pretty much the same old song and dance. The grass isn't greener, it's just different grass. ;)

Doing something wonderful for yourself can take any form that you want it to. Remember...it's what YOU want to do that counts. Unfortunately, I had to work today so whatever I wanted to do for myself went right out the window...lol.
